K9 Testing

1. Obedience Control- This test is to determine if the police dog is capable of performing off-lead obedience exercises. The test is designed to test the dogs ability and proficiency and the handlers total control over their dog.

b. Fast pace (double time)

a. Stay
b. Sit and Down (by Voice)

2. Agility Test-This test is to determine the ability of the police dog to surmount obstacles.
A. Hurdles- 42"-48" high, 36" wide.
a. Chain Link Fence
b. Window Jump- 30" by 30" opening.
c. Solid Wall
d. Vehicle Door Window
e. Picket Fence Jump
B. Trestle Walk- three feet off the ground, 12-18 feet long with 2" by 4" cross boards 4" apart.
C. Tunnel Walk-18" to 32" in diameter and 8 to 12 feet in length.
D. Platform Climb-4 foot by 4 foot platform at least 6 feet off the ground w/three types of ladders/stairs.
3. Article Search Test-This test is designed to test the police dogs ability and proficiency in searching a designated area for articles having human scent on them. This would represent a search for discarded evidence or lost items.
4. Area Search Test-This test is designed to test the police dogs ability and proficiency in searching for a hidden suspect within a large area when no known track is available.
5. Tracking Test-This test is designed to determine if the police dog is capable of tracking an unknown subject in an unfamiliar area.
6. Building Search Test-This test is designed to be simulative of a working situation.
