RESOLUTION No. 14-2010

WHEREAS,  Council of the Home Rule Borough of Edinboro shares the concern expressed by the Borough of Edinboro Water Authority regarding the need to protect the quality and safety of Edinboro’s municipal water supply; and

WHEREAS,   After reviewing Edinboro University’s (EUP’s) plans to drill 160 geothermal wells through the aquifer that serves as the municipal water supply, the Authority’s experts have emphatically expressed their concerns regarding the potential public health and safety risks associated with this proposal; and

WHEREAS,  The Borough of Edinboro Water Authority voted unanimously to instruct their Solicitor to appeal the decision to permit this risky project to the Environmental Hearing Board of the Department of Environmental Protection; and   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by Borough Council assembled this _13___ day of _September_, 2010 that they support and agree with the Water Authority’s appeal to the Environmental Hearing Board regarding the NPDES permit to Edinboro University.
